The Street Seen: Fall on Main Street
Main Street (Pico to Dewey)
It was March when we last checked in with Main Street. Since then several new places have opened - and 4 have closed. We lost 3 tall diseased Ficus trees just north of Ocean Park Blvd. And our startup robot delivery friend Coco pulled out of Main St. to focus on other areas.
Openings
2428 Main — Josiah Citrin’s limited service chicken restaurant, named for his deceased son Augie, opened.
2441 Main — Hawaiian Holey Grail Donuts located in the former Ben & Jerry’s space at Edgemar, raised $9 MM through venture capital financing and has a grand opening tomorrow.
2665 (C) Main — Purveyors of resin replicas of distinctive estate garden pots, Pennoyer Newman, had a grand opening in the Arts & Letters space (see Closings below).
2671 Main — After a year of interior remodeling, veterinary heavy weight VCA has opened in the former Starbucks space.
2708 Main — Comfortable clothing company Feat opened their flagship store in the former Trading Closet space.
2801 Main — Physician-validated skin care services SkinLab Santa Monica opened in the Axiom Contemporary art gallery (and before them Deyermond Art + Books ) space.
2907 Main — The Van Gessells, who own Hinano Café and Nighthawk Breakfast Bar, took over Ricks Tavern, rebranding the space as Tavern on Main.
2912 Main — Heavy Handed, whose burger truck had been "popping up" at Surf Liquor parking lot, opened a brick & mortar place at the former Edobox (and before them, the short lived Cowabunga Republic) place near Kinney.
2917 Main — Nacho and margaritas bar Vamos Vamos opened in the Pblc Trde pizza space.
On Going Construction
2400 Main — JINYA ramen continues to rebuild following the major kitchen fire.
2502 Main — Aesthetic Ambition Piercing and Fine Jewelry (currently on Washington Blvd in Marina Del Rey) have begun buildout of the long vacant Corefit (shoe in-soles) space.
2507 Main — Slow progress continues for an unnamed limited service restaurant at the former Novel Café and Pizzeria space.
2651 Main —Existing non-permitted sections of the building (yellow tagged and vacant since 2018) are being demolished as a preliminary step in the renovation.
What’s Going On ?
2941 Main — Back in 2017, O’Brien’s produced renderings for a proposed remodel. A construction fence went up. The only thing happening is the constant turn over of billposting on the fence.
3002 Main — ZAG continues to operate (by appointment only) but there is a for sale / lease sign on the building.
174 Kinney — Interior demolition in the former Enterprise Fish Co. started for an unnamed restaurant (rumored to be a Mexican eatery by the Gjelina Group) but nothing has happened for a while.
Closings
2510(c) Main St — Opened in 1999, Precious Metal Arts jewelry is gone from Main Street. The popular local boutique specialized in custom jewelry, and repair, and offered classes in jewelry making.
2665 (C) Main — Unfortunately Pennoyer Newman made it to both our Openings and Closings lists.
2803 Main — Major international electric bike brand Leon electric bike, who had a grand opening in March, like several previous electric bike businesses in that space, has moved on.
2810 Main — Nameless Bar & Nightclub, in the former Pink Elephant space, is gone.
3015 (B) Main — After 29 years, LA Urban Fitness Nutrition Center closed over Thanksgiving. They have moved to Lincoln Blvd in Marina Del Rey and the Main St space has been gutted.

Along both sides of the 1 mile stretch of Main Street Pico to the south City border past Marine, there are only 8 retail spaces left for lease.
