In 1926, in conjunction with the widening of Main St, a 2-story brick apartment building at 2820 Main St is moved 150 ft north to 2804 Main St.
In December 1926, the Joseph James apartment building at 2820 Main St (near the corner of Main and Ashland) is the last building to be cleared for the widening of Main St.
E.J. Palm buys the James building and hires Kress House Moving Company to move the 500-ton, 2-story brick apartment building to his now vacant lot at 2804 Main St.
As the building at 2810 - 2818 Main St is in the way, the James building (A) is pulled out 40 ft (B) onto Main St. Then the 76 ft long James building is moved sideways 150 ft north (C) along the 80 ft wide Main St, and then pushed back 80 ft west (D) to the new (post-1926) Main St building line.
Main St. from Hill to Ashland is closed for 2 days while the move is in progress. Santa Monica contractor J.L. Schimmer constructs the new foundations at 2804 Main St.
