To make way for the widening of Ocean Park Boulevard in 1969, a 3-unit apartment building on the corner of 6th and Ocean Park is demolished, and the 7 residential properties in the 500 Block on south side of Ocean Park Blvd lose their front yards - and more.
The 1960s Ocean Park Redevelopment Project envisions high-rise development all along the beach. To accommodate the anticipated traffic, 4th Street (from Bay to Hill) and Ocean Park Boulevard (from Barnard to Lincoln) are widened in the late 1960s.
The 50 ft wide Ocean Park Blvd is widened to 74 ft by removing 24 ft from properties along the south side of Ocean Park Blvd.
Let’s go east, down the 500 block of Ocean Park Blvd (with “before” and “after” photos) from 5th St (starting at 502 Ocean Park), past the now blocked-off 5th Ct (between 514 Ocean Park and 524 Ocean Park), to 6th St (with the pocket park on the corner replacing the demolished apartment building).
