The Stoneham Tract (Hill to Pier between 4th & 6th) is a 1903 re-subdivision of the Strachey Tract.
In 1903, G.T. Stoneham,1 R.S. Page,2 and W.O. Churchill3 buy the 53 lot 1887 Strachey Tract (Hill to Pier between 4th St and 6th St) and re-subdivide the property into 58 lots in Blocks A to D of the Stoneham Tract.
In 1904, Stoneham re-subdivides part (Lots 10, 11, 12 & 22, 23, 25 on the west side of 6th St ) of Block B to have the (smaller - 6 lots become 10) lots front on 6th St.
George Trigwell Stoneham (1843 - 1923). Born in NJ, his family moves to Chicago in 1845. In 1871, Stoneham marries Sarah Frances Vest (1848 – 1927). His Chicago occupation is carriage maker. In 1899, Stoneham (age 56) comes to CA and grows oranges in Sierra Madre. In 1902, Stoneham sells his 24 acre Park Manor ranch in Sierra Madre to Dr P Mills of Chicago for $23.000. In 1903, he moves to Ocean Park. Stoneham is a director of the First National Bank of Ocean Park. In 1904, son Charles John Stoneham (1873 - 1936), a house painter living at 419 Raymond, files for bankruptcy.
Roger Sherman Page (1875 – 1950). Born in MN. Page comes to Los Angeles in 1883 and follows his father, Judge Sherman Page, in the legal profession. Member of Los Angeles Board of Education. He is instrumental in the founding of the Los Angeles first law school.In 1904, he marries Lora Variel (1877 - 1923). In 1931, marries Elizabeth Wachtel Moore (1882 – 1973).
William Otis Churchill (1830 - 1904). Born in MA. He marries Sarah Gerry (1832 - 1904). In 1870, he is farmer in Iowa. In 1880, Churchill is a lumber dealer in IN. In 1900, he a real estate investor living on 4th St in Ocean Park. After his death, his estate is smaller than expected, and is contested by several relatives. They accuse his spinster daughter, Miriam, who has been taking care of him, of undue influence.
