As part of the 3-unit residential condominium development on the south east corner of 2nd St and Mills, the 1904 landmark Turn-of-the-Century Cottage has been lifted up on steel supports to allow for construction of a basement.
The plans call for the construction of 2 two-story residential units (with a subterranean garage) at the rear (east) of the historic cottage. The cottage will moved west (towards 2nd Street) and placed over a basement living area. The driveway will be moved from the side (Mills Street) to the front (2nd Street).
Following the death of the owner, the heirs began the lengthy process with a Rent Control Board hearing in January 2010, a Landmarks Commission hearing in February 2011, and the new design approval by the Planning Commission in August 2019.
Unfortunately (?) the old Canary Island palm, located in the new driveway, has been removed.
