Hoboken, New Jersey based Alfalfa serving the eponymous Alfalfa salads, soups, breakfast burritos and yes doughnuts is coming to Main St - striving to bring the perfect balance of fresh farmers market inspired salads and funky doughnut selection. The new fast-casual, health-conscious all-day cafe will open its doors in the coming weeks. When it does, expect a locally roasted fair trade coffee; highest quality produce for the salads; Southern California inspired breakfast burritos; and creative doughnuts.
Alfalfa began life in 2018 out of the four friends’ frustration with the limited number of healthy, affordable, and tasty lunch options in their New Jersey neighborhood. The team piloted a small salad-serving stand inside a Hoboken, New Jersey farmers market. The next year the friends partnered with a local luncheonette to open in a dinette space nearby, Alfalfa operated as a ghost kitchen in the morning and afternoon and converted the space to an in-person restaurant in the evening once the luncheonette closed. The team later acquired the luncheonette, converting it into Alfalfa’s first brick and mortar location. And now they’ve made the jump to California.
Alfalfa replaces Washington DC based Astro Doughnuts and Fried Chicken who opened its Main Street location in 2019 and then closed its two Southern California shops in Downtown LA and Santa Monica March, 2020.
Before them was Books and Cookies.
