You’ve seen the lines - mostly at lunch and late at night (way past when The Street Seen is in bed) at Mariscos Guillen La Playita at the south end of Lincoln, just beyond the crippled Rolls-Royce and Bentleys. The Street Seen assumed it wasn’t located within our purview. But no - it is in Ocean Park - right on the border with Venice - just short of that Whole Foods parking debacle.
La Playita is a no-frills Mexican seafood shack with windows for ordering and for pick up. Been there forever. Mexican seafood cocktails (shrimp, octopus, abalone or mixed seafood) and ceviche cups. There’s also tacos, burritos, tortas and tostadas with a choice of meat (carne asada, carnitas, etc.) that come with stacks of corn tortillas. To drink, you'll find aguas frescas and sodas in cans or bottles.
The values are great - but be sure to bring cash – they don’t take credit cards. There is minimal or no seating available - either you stand around the counter or do take-out.
