The health & fitness boom continues in Ocean Park – yoga and fitness outfit Sweatheory is moving into the Pico store front of the former pet store space (Animal Kingdom has shrunk back into its old space). Sweatheory is a health studio specializing in infrared saunas in private rooms with showers, unique infrared yoga and fitness classes, Vitamin IV drips, and Vitamin injections, body sculpting, and crystal & Reiki healing sessions.
Sweatheory was co-founded by Olivia Doneff in 2017. There are Sweatheory locations in Kansas City, Atlanta and Hollywood.
The space was previously the long time location of Vidiots. Vidiots opened in 1985 by two friends with 800 VHS tapes and a small amount of cash and closed after 32 years in February 2017.
The 6,440 sq-ft 1-story, wood roof and unreinforced masonry (URM) wall building was constructed in 1925. Light damage to the wall along 3rd Street was repaired following the 1994 Northridge earthquake. Like much of Pico Blvd, the property is zoned Santa Monica Mixed-Use Boulevard Low (MUBL). The change of use from Animal Care, Sales and Services may require a use permit.
